Champagne and Cold Coffee EP

As they prepared to select songs for their second album, El Jezel realized they had an abundance of songs that couldn’t fit on one CD. The solution was to give back to the fans by releasing three of these songs along with the leadoff single from their new album as a FREE digital EP. The unreleased tracks include a cover of The Breeders “Do You Love Me Now?” and two originals. The first, “Side Effects” is George’s scorching ode to paranoia that features Felipe Flores of Cholo on saxophone. “Crossing 21st Street” is Jessica’s song about her old neighborhood in Astoria which even references the night of the strange maple syrup smell.

Recorded by Travis Harrison at Serious Business Productions, NYC.
Produced and Mixed by Travis Harrison and El Jezel.
Saxophone on “Side Effects” by Felipe Flores.

Elements of Being Put Together

The debut album by El Jezel was officially released in December of 2005 as a limited edition run of 200 copies that featured hand crafted artwork and shiny silver paper. The response was positive and they later did an official pressing of the album in the Spring of 2006. Bloggers took note and said some nice things such as:

“a really solid album on which the trio plays dark and melodic post-rock that is just as comfortable venturing into blissed-out shoegaze territory as it is just riffing it up and rocking out. El Jezel also features both male and female vocals that counter and complement each other very well. Consider it indie rock for late nights.”

“Muted strings, ambient rhythms, and soft voices carry El Jezel through their debut, "Elements of Being Put Together". Almost experimental at points, the music gives you a sense that something explosive is about to happen..”

“one of the most impressive things our ears have found in all of New York City this year”

The album was recorded at Serious Business Productions in Bushwick with producer Travis Harrison at the helm. Marta Deleon made a guest appearance as the mysteriously credited “textural cello” player on the song “Michigan”.
